AMD Introduces Third-Generation Ryzen 9 Series

AMD today announced the launch of its third-generation Ryzen Threadripper family of desktop processors.

The top-of-the-line Ryzen Threadripper 9 24-core 3960X and 32-core 3970X are based on a 7nm Gen 2 core architecture. It offers up to 88 PCIe 4.0 lanes and 144MB of cache.

AMD said the 3970X is up to 90 percent faster than competitors' high-end desktop (HEDT) processors. Adobe Premiere ran up to 47% faster. There was a 36% performance improvement when running Unreal Engine.

The flagship model Ryzen 9 3950X 16-core offers up to 22 percent better performance than the previous generation. It offers twice the power efficiency of competing products.

The three products will be released on the 25th.

The AMD Athlon 3000G processor will be released today. Radeon graphics are included to provide higher frame rates in gaming than competing products

Saied Moshkerani, general manager of AMD's client computing division, said, "We will deliver high-performance desktop solutions that combine high performance with energy efficiency."
