ARM will continue to do business with Huawei, despite the ban imposed by the US

ARM has decided that it will be able to continue to do business with Huawei. The relationship between the two companies had been jeopardized by the ban imposed this spring by the United States . ARM is English, but the precise formulation of the ban (the prohibition of having commercial relations did not concern only companies based in the USA, but also foreign ones that included American technology in their products) had left the English chip designer (a few years ago passed under the control of the Japanese giant SoftBank ) in doubt.

According to Reuters reports , ARM has finally determined that at least some architectures (v8 and v9) are of English origin , and therefore it is possible to continue to license them to Huawei. We remind you that ARM is a fundamental piece for the smartphone world: all the processors included in the Qualcomm, Samsung, MediaTek, (precisely) HiSilicon SoCs and all the others are based on projects developed by ARM.

Meanwhile, Huawei seems to be doing very well. Just a few days ago we reported exceeding 200 million smartphones sold since the beginning of the year (ie the first nine months). Among other things, Kantar has confirmed that dominance in the Chinese market has reached impressive levels : almost one in two smartphones sold throughout China is branded Huawei or Honor.
